Which region shall I go for trekking? Here some tips.

The Everest Region

Start: Flight to Lukla, than trek north, slowly approaching the highest mountain of the world.

 

Mount Everest

 

Advantages  
-
"I was near the Mount Everest!"
- Both ways same trail. Return any time possible
- Interesting side valleys and climbing routes
- Plenty of Lodges of various standard.

 

 

Disadvantages  
- Unreliable flight to Lukla. No flight with bad weather conditions; many tourists are then fighting for seats.
- International "Tourist Highway".

 

 

The Anapurna Region

Start: Flight or car drive to Pokhara, 200km west of Kathmandu.

Advantages

- Transfer to starting place with safe flight or interesting drive on good road.
- Start in tropical Pokhara just 800m over sea level with breathtaking view to the himalayan giants in only 30 km distance.
- Trail to Muktinath through the deepest valley of the earth.
- Great Anapurna roundtrip.
- Plenty of Lodges of various standard.

 

Disadvantages
- Most crowded trek of Nepal, especially in the high season.
- some risks of criminal activities from drug addicts (Pokhara-region), burglars or "Maoist" terrorists (Gurkha- and Dolpo-region).
- International "Tourist Highway".
